The Ultimate Valentine’s Day Playlist

As we all know Valentine’s Day can be a stressful time for us guys.  Many of us aren’t sure what’s really expected of us and all we know is that we have to do something, we just don’t really know where to start.  But while I could provide some ideas on this subject, let’s assume I’m not dealing with total novices here.  Let me just tell you that any good Valentine’s Day plan needs a good soundtrack.  So why not show your significant other your sensitive side by making a sweet playlist loaded with smooth melodies and seductive slow jams?  Here are some of my favorite slow jams (from several eras and genres) that are perfect for Valentine’s Day, put these on a playlist and all you have to do is sit back and let them set the mood.

Right Here Waiting – Richard Marx
Everything I Do – Bryan Adams
The Moment – Kenny G
Eric Clapton – Wonderful Tonight
Billy Joel – She’s Always a Woman
Wicked Game – Chris Isaak
Unchained Melody – The Righteous Brothers
Your Song – Elton John
Please Forgive Me – Bryan Adams
Forever in Love – Kenny G
Thinking out Loud – Ed Sheeran
Come Away with Me – Norah Jones
Cross My Heart – George Strait
You make it look so easy – Eric Church
Breathless – Kenny G

Obviously these songs vary quite a bit, but trust me they are all fantastic and worth a spot on any Valentine’s Day playlist.  I’m sure your significant other will be impressed!  And if you don’t want to put in the effort to put together a full playlist for the occasion but still want some background melodies, I would strongly recommend just going with Kenny G or Norah Jones.  Norah Jones offers an incredible voice with soft, smooth songs that are perfect for background music.  And Kenny G, well what can I say, he is an absolute legend, and his smooth SAX-iness will definitely get the mood right (side note, he has an incredible personal story and is worth checking out)!

And just in case you are looking for that awesome Valentine’s Day movie to go along with your kick-ass soundtrack, here are some of my favorites on that front!

The Notebook

Crazy, Stupid, Love

Les Miserables

Something Borrowed

Definitely, Maybe

Generally, the key here is to not shy away from the chick flick.  First, because they get a bad rap.  Just let yourself get sucked in and root for the couple at the end and you’ll do fine!  And second, it’s two hours of your life and you can spare your significant other from watching another sporting event.   Some of these might seem like odd choices, but they each serve a purpose.  Les Miserables?  I know, not the happiest of stories, but if you can show your lady friend that you’re willing to sit through two and a half hours of Russell Crowe singing then you’re gonna score some brownie points.  And Spread might seem a bit scandalous for Valentine’s Day, but trust me, after the first half fireworks the movie actually finds a little heart, even if it’s still a little misguided!  But to be honest, you can never go wrong with a classic like The Notebook or a comedy like Crazy, Stupid, Love.  I mean, Gosling?  Can’t go wrong there!

Anyway there are a couple quick suggestions for Valentine’s media.  Hopefully these will be great additions to your already perfect Valentine’s Day plans.  You do have plans already, right!?
